Glory and Shadow - cello recital
The first of three concerts in which Nikolai Ginov (cello) and Asako Ogawa (piano) will play all of Beethoven's cello music. Tonight they play the sonatas in F and G minor, Op.51 and the liveley set of variations (Woo45) on "See the Conquering Hero Comes" from Handel's Judas Maccabeus. Fans of Handel can also hear tonight's performers around the corner in St George's Hanover Square next month during the Handel Festival.
The series will continue with the Op.69 Sonata in A and, in the final concert, the two sonatas Op.102, with miscellaneous Variations thrown in (dates to be announced).
Tickets: £8 (£6 concessions)
Some Favourite Melodies on Guitars - Naoki Ikuta and Friends
Naoki Ikuta and Takuro Yamazaki (guitars) are joined by Nazuna Takahama (piano) and Akiko Ishikawa (violin) to play guitar-oriented arrangements of some repertoire favourites such as Albeniz's Capriccio Catalan, the Brahms Intermezzo Op.117 and Franck's melodious Violin Sonata in A. The acoustic of the Schott Recital Room is particularly suited to the timbre of the guitar, as we have discovered in several recent concerts, fans of the instrument should make a date.
Tickets: £5 on the door or in advance from the shop.
Ronan Magill - piano
Continuing his popular series of recitals introduced by himself, Ronan will play items in the first half by Scarlatti and Haydn. He has promised a major repertoire work in the second half, to be revealed on the night. Be there or miss out!
Tickets: £20 on the door from 7.00 pm.
